Unusual Bluetooth performance on Windows 10
Unusual Bluetooth performance on Windows 10
The problem: My computer struggles to link with Bluetooth gadgets. When I try to connect any Bluetooth device, it appears in the list of discoverable devices and claims a connection, but actually nothing happens. The pairing process appears to function initially, yet the device remains disconnected—especially with my wireless headphones or speakers, which don’t transmit audio. In settings (under Audio), the devices list shows they’re paired, but clicking the connect button triggers an error like “That didn’t work. Please ensure your Bluetooth device is still discoverable, then try again.” They also don’t appear in the sound control panel. I’m attempting to pair my Sennheiser Momentum 4 headphones and a Bose SoundTouch 10 speaker.
I recall my PC was built in 2018 using entirely different components, which makes me suspect a software-related issue, though I remain doubtful. The concern is that the problem stems from my PC rather than the devices themselves, which still work with other hardware like my Galaxy S21 or laptop. Initially, I thought the motherboard was faulty, but after swapping to a new one (from ROG Z370-i to ROG Z390-i), the issue persists.
I’ve used external USB Bluetooth adapters (USB 2.0 and 3.x), but they don’t resolve the problem—even when I disabled the built-in Bluetooth, the issue continues.
I’ve tried several troubleshooting steps: switching Bluetooth on/off, restarting the PC, updating or reinstalling Bluetooth drivers, using the Windows Bluetooth troubleshooter (which suggests checking the radio status), and checking service logs in Services.msc. The BIOS didn’t disable Bluetooth, the system restarted without issues, and I changed the startup type to automatic for all Bluetooth-related services.
I upgraded my motherboard from a basic ROG Z370-i to an ROG Z390-i and a GTX 1060, then later upgraded to a GTX 1080 with an EVGA Hybrid board. I replaced the heatsink and still face the same challenge.
Please help if you can identify any overlooked details that might assist. I’m happy to provide further updates when I can respond.
I also faced a similar issue. I managed to link the Sony Home Theatre (HT-S500RF) with my JBL Bluetooth headphones to a Lenovo G50 80 laptop from 2016 using Bluetooth. When the headphones are connected, normally they appear as two audio devices in Windows 10’s sounds list—stereo for general audio and hands-free audio for calls and video. The home theater shows up as just stereo. In the Windows 10 settings, devices page lists 'music' and 'voice' under Bluetooth headphones, and 'music' under Home Theatre. However, when I connect them, under the devices page I don’t see 'music' for either device, only 'voice' appears next to Bluetooth headphones. In the sounds list, it looks like the stereo device is disconnected and the hands-free device is connected and ready for calls. Running the troubleshooter shows 'No jack information is available.' I reinstalled all drivers (Bluetooth and audio) but the problem persists. I found a discussion on a Microsoft community forum where someone mentioned this started after a software update, suggesting it might be a Windows issue. Could you help us fix this? Thank you.
