Hey there! I upgraded my GPU from a 1050ti to a 1070 amp model by Zotac. My CPU is an i7-4770 and I have 16 GB of RAM. The PSU seems capable at 650W. At first everything worked fine—games ran smoothly without any problems. But recently, I’ve noticed significant drops in performance during more demanding titles like PUBG. Even adjusting graphics settings didn’t help much. Turning off Vsync actually stabilized the frame rate to a steady 60fps on lower settings. The issue also appeared in Assetto Corsa, which was running perfectly at max settings on my older GPU. It feels like a combination of low FPS and some kind of stuttering. I checked MSI Afterburner, and my CPU usage was only around 30%, which doesn’t seem to point to a CPU bottleneck. However, my GPU is being used quite heavily—about 80% even in Assetto. I experimented with changing the pagefile, reinstalling the graphics driver, resetting settings in the Nvidea Control Panel, and looked for any apps causing slowdowns, but nothing turned up. Could it be a CPU problem or something else entirely? Thanks for your help, Jonas!

The GPU seems to be acting oddly. The clock speed looks typical for most 1070 models with adequate cooling. Frequency should comfortably hit 1800 to 2000 without issues.

This happens because your CPU is limiting the GPU's performance

Thanks! The main clock usually sits near 2000, and the memory clock around 4000. I haven’t pushed it beyond overclocking or using negative voltage. I just began a PUBG match to test again—it appears to cap at 60 when VSync is off, but jumps to about 45 when VSync is enabled. GPU temperatures look normal during gameplay, staying around 70°C/158°F.

The average frame rate would remain similar even with different graphics settings.

Tried using VSync disabled in Assetto and got smooth 200fps performance—no stuttering or banding at all.

Vsync is mostly active, but it doesn't change everything.

Performance seems surprisingly strong—it might be that seeking assistance solved the problem for me. Have you used DDU to delete your drivers? If not, reinstalling them could be a good idea.

For the classic Assetto Corsa versions, it was what fans expected. Though I've considered it, problems persist after enabling VSync. Yeah, I might just wipe everything clean.
