Hi all, strange one for you. Ive swapped out my old athlon 64 X2 for a phenom ii 545(old potato of a thing I know) The strange thing upon first boot I forgot to reconnect the CPU 4pin cable.. the system booted perfectly and even ran stable.. once the thought passed through my head that I possibly didn't plug it in, checked and reconnected it there was absolutely no difference. Now im pretty certain the thing shouldn't have posted in the first place.

Are there several EPS connectors on your board? For instance, if it has an 8-pin and a 4-pin, the CPU wouldn't function without power from any of them.

Occasionally a processor operates without the additional 4-pin port when it doesn't require that extra power. You might have seen issues during heavy testing, though.

It seems the device might have been running at a much slower speed than usual. In today's setup, especially without the EPS connector, the system often boots up and displays a black screen with white text, prompting you to connect it again.

These devices are quite old, featuring a 4-pin EPS plus the usual 24 or 20 pin connectors (excluding those). Over the past few years, I've worked with laptops and tablets. When I tried one out of curiosity, it didn’t perform well—so I upgraded to a £10 CPU and 4GB DDR2 RAM, which cost me around four pounds plus a wait for it... GTX650! It actually ran surprisingly smoothly.

Hmm that's strange, it shouldn't have ran without the 4pin, they directly connect to the VRMs and I don't think there's any traces to the VRMs from the 24pin unless it's an OEM board with weird proprietary connectors so they might have violated the standards as usual, meaning the 24pin has a different pinout than the ATX standard.

I'll share the image soon... the board design is really striking.

They might maintain the ATX standard, though connecting traces to the VRMs isn’t optimal and I haven’t observed it before.

A strange layout means it's likely an original equipment manufacturer part.

It's not original equipment manufacturer, it's from China
