Hello! I'm trying to add a second router or access point to my home network by connecting one Ethernet port from the main router to the second one. So far, neither device is assigning IP addresses to each other. I've placed an Ethernet switch and experimented with various patch configurations, but the issue persists. I'm not using a WiFi repeater, so please don't be surprised. Let me know if you can help! Thank you!

Begin by turning off the switch—it’s unlikely it’ll help, but starting simple is always wise during troubleshooting. Have you switched your second router to AP mode? If not, it might be acting as a DHCP server and providing addresses, which could clash with the main router doing the same. Which router are you using? Some devices let you use the WAN port when in AP mode, while others require a LAN port; check the manual for details.
