I was updating my work PC, which meant replacing motherboards from a faulty X570 Tuf with an Aorus Elite Wi-Fi, changing the H500 to the h510 Flow, and swapping the Corsair h100i RGB to the nzxt Kraken X63. Everything else stayed the same. I was doing stability checks on my CPU and noticed that during the AIDA64 Extreme Stress Test, Ryzen Master reported the 3900X never exceeding 100 watts. I’m puzzled because this CPU can draw over 140 watts in spikes during PBO2, yet it stays under 100 on this test. Also, I’m wondering if the difference in idle temperatures between my work PC (3900X at 40-50°C) and my home PC (5900X at 40-50°C) is due to something else. I know my X63 has solid mounting pressure, and during stress tests it never exceeded 75°C, even though the 3000-series tends to run hotter at idle. Did the 3000 series really have higher idle temps compared to the 5000 series?

I really don’t understand. The 5000 series was just so much better overall, it wouldn’t be surprising for me.

Restore BIOS to factory settings then turn on XMP profile. Verify the power plan currently active—whether it requires Ryzen balanced or Ryzen high power for the 3000-series.

I’ve completed the BIOS setup, but I’ll review the power plan now. It seems the high-performance setting was likely for Ryzen, correct?

I'm unsure how AIDA64 extreme stress test actually puts pressure on the CPU, but power consumption varies a lot with workload. Prime95 Small FFT tends to show the highest usage numbers in my experience. My 3700X, which has a 65W TDP and PBO enabled, can easily exceed 130W during Prime95, though other programs might reach just over 100W. Regarding temperatures: Ryzen 3000 chips may show higher readings due to proximity of temperature sensors, especially during idle or load phases. But choosing the right power plan really makes a big difference for idle temps. I shared some test results in a thread a few months ago if you want to review them.
