Unusual actions following the 41th kernel power failure event
Last night experienced a short power spike lasting under a second at my residence. It led to my PC (ROG x570, Ryzen 7 3800x, 32GB 3600mhz Trident Z, MSI 2070 Super, Dual 1TB m.2) shutting down unexpectedly. After reviewing the Windows Event Viewer, I found an Event 41 Kernel Power error logged. Pressing the power button for 5-7 seconds didn’t immediately stop it. I had to switch off the power supply to trigger a full shutdown and restart. Once back online, everything appeared normal except for my GOXLR app which returned a 400 error when trying to verify its version with the server. Chrome failed to open at all. Double-clicking the icon produced no response. Edge functions properly, speed tests show typical performance, Steam and Epic Launcher work, and most internet-dependent programs operate correctly except for Chrome and that peculiar GOXLR issue. So far I’ve tried reinstalling Chrome multiple times—once with a quick uninstall and reinstall, the second time I cleared all app and user data before restarting. I ran a MalwareBytes scan with no red flags, tried running Chrome as administrator, renamed the shortcut, and launched the executable directly from Explorer. I reset network settings, flushed DNS, changed my IP address, and reset Winsock. Now I’m unsure what else to do except a full Windows reinstall, though I’m willing to wait if it saves time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Indications suggest possible issues with your storage device. If data was written during a power outage, affected sections could contain errors. Follow these steps in this sequence: Launch an elevated command prompt as Administrator and execute the commands listed, ensuring you restart after completion. Run chkdsk C: /f /r /x and wait for it to finish before proceeding. Execute sfc /scannow and follow any prompts to optimize your drives, focusing on C and other available partitions. For an SSD, the process will primarily involve trimming.
Thanks for the suggestions. I attempted all three options but didn’t succeed. I’ll back up, reformat, and begin anew.
