I own a "Frankenstein" PC that’s been causing issues since I installed Windows fresh on an SSD. It runs a Lenovo m91p motherboard, an i5 2500s CPU, 5 GB RAM (all same clock speed, Kingston memory), a GTX 580, a Sandisk 64GB SSD, a PCIe to USB 3 card, and two old Seagate Barracuda 120GB drives that are striped. The main issues are with the sleep/wake feature—my keyboard backlight goes out and I can’t wake up the system—and often the fans stay on after shutdown even when the OS has stopped. I’ve tried everything possible from Intel to Lenovo, but nothing works. This problem started after switching from a mechanical HDD to an SSD.

Check the drive and consider a new installation.

I faced a similar problem that lasted about a month and a half. I spent two weeks trying to diagnose it, then a month trying to fix it without success. Ultimately, I had to do a clean installation, but it didn’t restore the system.

It seems like you've likely reinstalled the operating system multiple times without success. The refresh option didn't help either. This issue appeared only after installing an SSD that originally came with the system image from the HDD. In the disk manager, it appears as a standard hard drive instead of a solid-state drive. Is this a concern? You mentioned using AHCI and having the latest BIOS.

Which Windows is this? Have you tried setting Wake-On settings from BIOS?

Update: just reinstalled windows 10 from scratch and still have the "no wake" and "no shutdown" problem. I think my system is trying to wait for the SSD to spin down and that may be causing the problem. Is there any way to tell the system that the C drive is an SSD or is that more of a bios problem?
