Unstable frames per second with stuttering (problem ongoing for over two years, Call of Duty related)
Unstable frames per second with stuttering (problem ongoing for over two years, Call of Duty related)
So I've had this issue for ever now and I'm finally to the point I have to ask somewhere to see if I could get ANY help at all. Before I dig in, here are my specs: Windows 11 23H2 Ryzen 5 5600x 2x 4GB Ripjaws V 3600Mhz (Can't use XMP so it's at ~3200Mhz) ASRock B550 Pro 4 Gigabyte RTX 3070 Cosair RM 750w Anyway, the issue seems fairly simple and consistent in Call of Duty MWIII (and in the past title) and it's at an unplayable state. I do not know of any other game it does this with (from the selection I play) other than CoD. So to explain the issue as best I can is this. I will have FPS fluctuations from 60-140+ at all times. Now this is also linked with "CPU Time" on the in-game telemetry where it will just from 4-5ms to 6-14ms, and at all times as well. I've tried everything from turning my small OC off, and on again. Changing some in-game settings. Checking GPU Drivers (admittedly not CPU drivers, but it's not like I don't have all the "base" drivers and stuff from their websites). I am at the point where I am lost and beyond aggravated at this point, which is why I am here. Thanks for any help in advance! EDIT 1: Added more specs
Enable resizable bar settings in the BIOS and review the Nvidia control panel options.
I adjusted a few HEAP settings in CoD's options file that someone mentioned were connected, though I wasn't sure they needed to be active in BIOS. The Nvidia Control Panel shows "YES." Should I still verify the BIOS? Now it seems like I might have tried this before.
When the Nvidia control panel indicates it's active, the BIOS must already have it turned on.
Do you recall when everything worked smoothly? Since you don’t play CoD, you might want to switch it off. Dynamic FPS games will be coming soon—make sure VSync is enabled and adjust your refresh rate.
I'm not sure, but I might have to enter BIOS for that. I think so? It sounds a bit odd though. Having such a big swing in swings is kind of crazy, right? I consider myself tech-savvy, but it's been years since I built or modified my PC. (That extra info isn't needed if you're ready to help, it should make things clearer.) Also, with a 144Hz monitor, turning on VSync probably won't help much when the frame rate jumps above 144fps.
It seems turning off the system and enabling Vsync together makes a big difference. The slight discomfort might be due to the game being CPU-intensive, especially after losing silicone on it. I considered this, but it could also relate to modern hardware performance and how the resizable bar affects FPS. Hope this helps clear up your confusion! Thanks for sharing your experience—it really makes a difference!
