Unstable First-Person Shooter experience in Shadow of Mordor
Hey there, so I just started Shadow of Mordor today, and my FPS are all chaotic. I checked the benchmark when I launched it—max around 76 FPS and average about 45. When I start the game on Ultra settings, my frames keep fluctuating wildly, sometimes hitting 50-60 and other times dropping to 12-25fps, making it completely unplayable. Anyone have a clue what’s happening?
Reduce the texture quality to a medium setting and test it again.
A 670 TI is a display technology, often used in monitors and TVs. Lowering the textures to high or medium settings can improve performance and reduce strain.
The GTX 770 with just 2 GB of VRAM won't handle ultra/1080p without problems. I own the 4 GB model, and Shadow of Mordor limits it to ultra. It's unclear if it will actually reach the claimed 6 GB usage, but it will definitely consume all 4 GB. Also, Shadow of Mordor sometimes drops framerate to 30 FPS at fullscreen when it falls below 60 FPS. You can try playing in a windowed view or disabling Vsync as a workaround. You'll need to install the Ultra texture pack, otherwise the game only shows high-resolution textures. Whether your friend experiences this depends on their setup—some people are more accepting of lower performance than others. He would likely struggle significantly with ultra at 1080p using a 660 Ti processor.
I’m not relying on the Ultra texture pack, and neither is my friend. I just meant adjusting the game’s texture settings in the game itself. He mentioned his FPS fell to around 40 or lower. All my issues seem resolved once I switched the texture quality down from Ultra to High. Since I’m only using about 30% of my VRAM, I could try increasing it again and see how it performs. Maybe I should also check the Ultra High DLC if that works out.
