Unraid issues with USB devices
the system is operational though there are some issues with the USB devices. it isn't as fast or powerful as the setup linus used, but it works after connecting the peripherals on the io panel and switching between mouse1 for vm 1 and mouse2 for vm 2 in unraid. when you set the machine to a specific machine, the mouse-guid updates accordingly. adjusting the xml to the right "mouse" guid makes the change effective. some tweaking helps it run smoothly until the vms restart, after which the mouse gets a new ID again. there seems to be no clear method to route different USB hubs to each VM, but linus was able to access the display USB hub. anyone with more insight would be appreciated. thanks in advance – rig spoiler
You can't connect USB devices directly unless you install a PCIe adapter and run it in a virtual machine. Also, consider switching away from Unraid and using platforms like ESXi, Proxmox, Xen, or OVIRT—they offer stronger support and greater reliability.
Linus chose Unraid because it efficiently utilized every PCI slot available.
Since it was sponsored. Recommend avoiding similar approaches. For versatility, consider purchasing thin clients for each user.
Issue arises because this setting isn't recognized. Consider using thinclients or isolating separate systems.
Nvidia offers a grid system that integrates standard GPU drivers and manages cores and VRAM efficiently. You can also divide it into software layers, allowing the hypervisor to route requests accordingly. While this flexibility exists, your options are restricted by the drivers the hypervisor provides—currently Esxi only supports DirectX 9 in this configuration. Personally, I’d explore Xen and Esxi if you’re interested in commercial hypervisors.
