Unknown USB device detected: HyperX Cloud 2
Hi, I see you're dealing with a USB connection issue for your HyperX Cloud 2 headset. It seems the device isn't being recognized properly in Device Manager. Since you've already checked other systems and confirmed it works elsewhere, you might want to try the following:
- Ensure the headset is properly seated in the port.
- Restart both your computer and the headset.
- Check for any driver updates or reinstall the drivers from the manufacturer's website.
- If possible, test the headset on a different USB port or computer to rule out port issues.
- Consider using a different USB cable to eliminate compatibility problems.
If the problem persists, you may need to contact HyperX support directly with your device details. Let me know if you'd like help finding their support contact!
It seems like everything is functioning properly now, but I noticed some unusual behavior earlier today. I'll be at NCIX tomorrow. Thanks!
Click the device with the right-click menu, then choose Update device driver. Navigate to Browse from my computer and select a driver from the available options. Make sure your headset appears in the list. If found, pick it and install the corresponding driver for that device. This should re-establish recognition.
Okay I just want to let everyone know and for new people that come in search for help. I had the same issue as OP, I isolated the problem to the USB Control box. There is a design flaw with the inline soundcard that they decided to put in that box. I've spoken with many parts dealers and they have all confirmed that they get a lot of returns all based around the same flaw. If one day out of the blue windows hits you with " Device Descriptor Request Failed" don't bother searching for a fix because more than likely your USB box has failed (test this by plugging your headphones 3.5mm into something, they will work). I returned mine to the store and the tech just swapped out the part for a brand new one. DO NOT buy another USB control box, they are rather expensive and It's Kingstons fault not yours so they shouldn't profit off of the situation. The headset comes with a 2 year warranty so you can get in touch with them if you have no receipt or store warranty. * EDIT: It's also important to mention the USB box placement means that with constant use (repetitive on and off motions) the box is subject to a lot of slamming into stuff. Make use of the clip that comes with it and clip it to your mouse pad, this hopefully will prevent the sound card from failing. I can't confirm that slightly knocking the box caused the failure but it doesn't hurt to be safe. Most likely case is the product came out of the factory flawed and will fail without any help from you.
I face a different issue where the headset shows up only in another device's manager, not in playback or recording tools. Updating drivers gives no results—no errors, just functionality with the phone but not with the PC. The official guidance from Kingston seems unclear or unhelpful.
The headset includes a 2-year warranty, allowing you to contact them even without a receipt or store warranty.
