It might not be a major setback because the game appears less impressive than Concord, yet if we consider failures, does not succeeding even by surpassing a larger one count as a significant defeat?
It looks bad simply looking at player count numbers over at Steam chart and it's telling, much lower player peak count than Concord's numbers IF I recall correctly. But, on the bright side, it's done better than one that's basically scraping the bottom of the barrel, the one that took the big 'L'.....Dustborn! Edit - It's said Sony lost about 1/2 billion on Concord, as Bandai Namco had acquired Reflector, we still don't know how much it'd cost them to develop the game as well...we'll have to wait a few months for the full pic. Right now, I can only surmise than Bandai Namco isn't happy about the purchase.
many people are spending around fifty dollars on a console game that turns out to be poor quality. they stay with it because they can't afford another one. there were magazines too, but most didn’t have them. I didn’t even attend. I bought a NES game from the pawn shop for five dollars—it was terrible. under the five-dollar label was a one-dollar sticker. I was still upset with my friend for getting Mario 2 and Metrod for NES at five each, while I paid twenty dollars for Mario RPG: Witch. He got the system and received about eight games free. The point is I could have paid five dollars, but he needed twenty for the whole thing.
Absolutely, I purchased some really bad games for the N64 back then. Time acts as a strong filter. We recall the Ocarina of Times and Half Life, yet overlook all the failures. Now it seems nearly every release falls short. The last game we really liked on PC was Baldur's Gate 3, more than a year ago. It feels like the gaming world has taken a big hit. Both Microsoft and Sony have poured massive budgets into games, from mediocre experiences like Starfield to the complete failure of Concord. Ubisoft appears to be struggling after years of disappointments, and Unknown 9 seems to be following a similar pattern.

The issue, in my view, is that modern AAA developers often ignore player feedback. As customers, gamers need our support to keep the industry alive. When we don’t buy games like SW Outlaws, Dustborn, Concord, or Unknown, we’re labeled as extreme or irrational. There’s little reflection from the developers about why a game fails—whether it’s design, mechanics, or execution. For instance, Ubislop’s AC Shadows originally featured a Japanese samurai as the main character, but due to recent events like BLM, they changed direction, which some argue was a misstep. There are also reports that designers lack familiarity with the tools or engines, leading to games that don’t meet expectations. Personally, I don’t mind if Ubislop faces financial trouble. As long as there are developers like Game Science, Saber, SHIFT UP, Fun Dog Studios, Croteam, etc., creating games I enjoy, I’m fine with letting others struggle.
