Unique motherboard CPU cooling system from the manufacturer
I acquired a Dell Optiplex 775 at no cost since they were phasing them out, and I was after one myself. I dismantled the whole setup—including the power supply, CPU, RAM, and the Nvidia GT 8400 graphics card—outside the case. I replaced it with four 2GB DDR2 RAM modules, but the cooling setup used a hard drive fan blowing directly onto the CPU. It functions fine, though it’s not ideal. I’m seeking a superior cooling solution, but the mounting holes on the motherboard for a CPU cooler don’t match standard LGA 775 slots, and I’m aware Dell offers this design. I’m curious if there’s an alternative way to obtain a better CPU cooler without purchasing a modern motherboard with four DDR2 slots, so I can build another system this summer and avoid any distractions like a nearby vacuum cleaner.
I understand, zip ties might seem rough but they function okay. The same applies to the system's age—it tends to run sluggishly and use more energy when not active.
It includes mounting holes, and I already have a LGA 775 cooler that matches, but it doesn’t fit perfectly. I’ll check if zip ties can help. Here’s a similar motherboard with the same problem: https://images.app.goo.gl/AaxBnCAfNGQLwUjE9
