I’m experiencing a strange problem where Windows assumed the battery was dead, even though the status light and Ubuntu 18.04 indicated it was above 50%. After that, my account would log in with a Windows XP-like cursor, black screen, and the OpenHardwareMonitor widget appeared. Pressing Alt+Delete didn’t help at all. Another account on the machine works normally. Laptop specs: Lenovo W530, Intel i7-3820QM, nVidia Quadro K2000M, 32 GB DDR3 RAM, 2 TB HDD, Samsung 850 EVO.

Consider removing pre-installed utilities tied to power and rely on Windows' native features. It's challenging to grasp the exact issue from your message.

It was a fresh setup using only the fingerprint sensor software. It’s been a while since installation. The chkdsk scan completed and appears to have fixed any issues. Hmm, thanks still!
