Unintentionally added Radeon drivers?
Hi, I just completed my first PC build and was updating the latest drivers. The Ryzen 5 3600 GTX 1660 Super with 16GB of 3200 MHz RAM. When I reached the chipset driver section, the motherboard manufacturer had it wrongly connected, so instead of installing the chipset drivers, I ended up installing Radeon GPU drivers. At first, I didn’t realize these were the GPU drivers and not the chipset ones, because the manufacturer had already linked them. Obviously, since my system uses an NVIDIA GPU, the installation kept failing and I kept trying. It kept reporting it had partially installed the Radeon software every time, always encountering errors. Eventually, I realized what I’d done and removed the Radeon software (I think). Then I reinstalled the correct chipset driver from the AMD website. I’m wondering if this process might have caused any issues with my PC, even though I was using NVIDIA GPU drivers. Thanks for your help—I appreciate it!
It's unlikely. You can look in the Control Panel for installed applications and see if any AMD GPU-related items remain. If not, you might try reinstalling the NVIDIA driver using DDU, unless you encounter issues, in which case you probably don't need to worry.
Not seeing any major issues. FPS dips from 60 to 30 in Sea of Thieves are typical during tough moments. No changes in the Control Panel. It’s safe to say you’re good—just stick with what you have. Thanks!
I wouldn't go for DDU unless you notice issues. You'll likely encounter something seemingly unrelated, but you can test DDU just to confirm it's not a long-standing error affecting your current work.
