Hello, Am I always relying on VPN to reach my LAN remotely for accessing files or working with my server at the university? My configuration works well anywhere, but it fails when I’m in my parent’s cottage. The VPN seems to stop unexpectedly. It only functions when I connect via my phone’s hotspot, even though my phone uses the cottage Wi-Fi. Could you offer any insights into why this happens? Additionally, I’d like advice on setting up a site-to-site Unifi VPN network and using it properly, plus guidance on obtaining the Shared Secret Key from your OpenVPN server. Thanks in advance!

People often notice ISPs preventing VPN use. The issue could also stem from a router blocking the VPN port. Which one do you suspect?

If the VPN port is blocked, it might be because of network restrictions. I’m testing with a phone using HostPot and connecting to a local Wi-Fi network. I’m using the standard OpenVPN port.

You can switch the ports your VPN employs to different ones as well.

Someone with a similar issue tried using a site-to-site VPN on the Unifi controller. It performed much better than the OpenVPN setup.
