Unexpected performance issues in COD Warzone
Unexpected performance issues in COD Warzone
Before sharing my details, I want to mention that even with these settings, I was using the game at a playable speed of 30-50fps. My system includes an Athlon X4 860k, paired with a GTX 1050 2gb, and 8gb of 1600mhz RAM. I've been playing for nearly a month, and during that time I upgraded my GTX 750 1gb to a GTX 1050 2gb, which is new territory for me. However, about two to three days ago, when I opened the Warzone lobby, I noticed it struggled to keep 20-30fps, while it usually runs smoothly at 40-60fps. As I began the game, it would experience major stutters that made it nearly impossible to play. Recently, I observed the CPU time in Warzone was 30-60ms or higher, whereas my GPU time stayed very low at 6-17ms. I've tried various fixes without much success: switching game modes, adjusting CPU priority in Modern Warfare, updating Windows, reinstalling GPU drivers, tweaking game settings, disabling full screen optimizations, and increasing render resolution. Also, I've checked my CPU temperature via alt-tab monitoring; it hasn't exceeded 70°C. Could there be a solution? Thank you ahead of time. P.S. I've also attempted to set the paging file to use only my SSD, even though Warzone is installed on my HDD (my SSD is 120gb, and it's on the OS drive, while my HDD is 320gb).
There may be a slight delay upon launching, possibly due to memory issues.
Launching the game doesn't seem to cause major issues. In Warzone, FPS appears on the main menu, and I don't notice any problems there. However, when viewing the character's movement screen, my CPU time starts to increase and FPS drops below 30. Would reseating the RAM help improve performance?
Updated after sharing my response, I chose to install MSI Afterburner to track CPU and GPU performance while I faced significant lag during gameplay. Suddenly, my system responded normally. Be aware I didn’t make any further changes after posting—I fell asleep, woke up, installed MSI Afterburner, and resumed playing. I haven’t captured Core Temp or the application’s on-screen display while in-game, but I did save screenshots of both during the lobby wait.
This situation can occur occasionally and might be hard to diagnose. In your case, it seems like the CPU temperature was around 70°C and was quite low, getting close to that level. Useful advice: in MSI Afterburner you can monitor temperatures via the tool even after quitting a game, and it displays the maximum recorded temperature, helping you track what happened. Another suggestion: removing the side panel might lower temperatures if the issue recurs. Also, sometimes background loading during gameplay can stress the CPU.
You're now meeting the strictest hardware and software standards, which means you'll likely face frequent issues, unexpected errors, and instability with every new update. It's understandable—this is the reality of gaming. Patches are released, drivers are updated, and older systems become outdated quickly. Take advantage of this while it lasts before the platform stops working due to incompatibility.
