I was using Acer Nitro 5 an515-57 with 8 GB RAM and Core I5-11400H GTX 1650 Insyde Corp. V1.17 on Windows 10 Pro x64. Two days ago while playing Mafia III, my GPU fan spiked to 6666 RPM and performance dropped from 60 fps to 7-11. After that, game textures also rerendered. Earlier, during CS2 playthroughs, FPS didn’t drop despite similar issues. I suspected a driver problem, tried updating and reinstalling Windows, but the issue persisted. In Device Manager, the GPU listed as deleted or non-startable. After a fresh install, it still reported: “Device needs to be installed.” No further details on required updates.

It's a pretty old GPU, probably around 5 or 6 years.

He likely acquired it between mid and late 2021, based on the laptop's release timeline. The firmware is significantly more recent, suggesting it might have been purchased as late as mid to late 2022.

It's even more odd that reinstalling the same drivers again fixed everything, but then it dropped back to 7 fps after rebooting the PC.

It started to function occasionally, checking performance each time. The first version ran at 49 frames per second, the second after a restart hit 7, and the third after another reboot reached 49. It seems this is still occurring.

Are the temperatures acceptable? It might be throttling due to overheating, a typical issue in laptops... Otherwise, it seems like a hardware problem.

It clearly shows a malfunction since temperatures aren't rising above 80 right now, but when it did reach around 86 it could definitely lead to overheating. I'm trying to figure out exactly what's going on and might need to bring it in for service.

I reworked it yesterday, actually. Before that, I had done it about four months ago.
