Hey, I searched online but didn’t find anything matching what I’m going through. It began just an hour ago while playing Assetto Corsa. At first, I was racing calmly with others, drifting smoothly... Suddenly, my car lagged, the wheels vibrated wildly (because I was in a corner and lost traction), and the lag lasted 3 to 5 seconds before returning. After checking Task Manager, CPU was at 45%, GPU at 60%, RAM was spiking to 90% even though I have 16 GB, Assetto Corsa was consuming about 4 GB, Chrome used around 800 MB and the rest was minimal. No GPU or CPU spikes were seen, and overall performance stayed normal otherwise. Then it happened again after 10 minutes, then every few minutes afterward. I tried turning it off to watch YouTube, but the issue returned whenever I interacted with the browser or watched videos. During those lag moments, I could move my mouse but everything on screen slowed down and I couldn’t click. Anyone know what might be causing this? It’s really frustrating to keep getting this every minute.

No, I don't have a hard drive connected to my system.

HDD? I haven't relied on hard drives for a long time, have you? I've got two 2TB M.2 SSDs and one 1TB SATA SSD... and neither of them seems to be in use when the issue arises.

These are just basic notes, no changes during the delay. Probably related to SW, but I tend to steer clear of it.

How old is the SATA SSD? I mention HDDs because drive interrupt signals can sometimes cause stuttering when its holding the CPU hostage to do an operation, I could see an old/failing SATA SSD doing the same. I'd recommend replying or @ so it gives the user a notification that you've replied.

And what role does the Sata SSD with games play in the strange behavior of your system? Windows is installed on the main M.2 SSD, which I purchased brand new four months ago... The Sata SSD was also brand new and I bought it a year ago... Samsung 870 QVO when it was on sale... Man... if this was hardware-related I would have known and never visited here... since I’m familiar with my hardware and its characteristics, I came here hoping for assistance, but now I’m just frustrated by the unusual performance. You’re wasting my time with unrelated questions... I value your help, but it’s pointless to ask. I have one HDD stored in a drawer from an old laptop, kept as a backup for extra storage. I also have two very slow Sata SSDs, one that’s about two years old, and my main drive, which matches the specifications I needed. Besides, I understand what you’re discussing, but it still doesn’t clarify the slow mouse movement, 3-5 second delays, and zero activity—even when I’m using nothing and all programs are closed (including Intel, NVIDIA, Steam, Discord, etc.). I also question it’s a virus since I don’t download anything suspicious from the internet and all my games are legitimate (I recently played Assetto Corsa, Forza Horizon 5, Overwatch 2 daily, and Far Cry 6)... Before I faced hardware problems with my USB hub where devices would disconnect every few seconds, I assumed the hub controller was faulty and stopped using it. Then I experienced odd behavior with my modem for internet (I used a USB 4G modem but had to switch to a regular 4G router because the USB modem interfered with my mouse signal for some reason). I’ve resolved all these hardware issues myself... anything related to software feels overwhelming, so please help me.

It's time to get started! Verify your standby memory (look in taskmanager/resource monitor) after the screenshot (just after the problem happened). Proceed with a full Malwarebytes scan (click each hard drive – > full scan with MWB, repeat for every drive). Capture the results screenshot. Finally, understand what this means – they’re still present in the system, so they need to be removed.

CPU signals indicating drive interrupts from any linked storage device. If the issue occurs consistently and you haven't removed all but your main drive, try disconnecting others first. This approach is typical for HDDs due to their behavior, though it might apply to SATA SSDs too. Problem-solving focuses on eliminating variables to pinpoint the root cause, suggesting that software fixes aren't ideal if hardware factors remain unresolved.

Aye aye, so the way I see it... Fresh, a month old installation of windows 10, 2 new m.2 SSDs and a one year old Sata SSD = solution, try disconnecting them, potentially corrupting your data or game libraries that are stored on them, install malwarebytes, a program that never ever helped me with anything except slowing down my system... Also I have 1 Sata slot and 2 m.2 slots so clearly NO they are not in the system, I mean the old HW... why would I have unusable HW connected? Anyways, instead of going trough all this imma rather wipe the system down, install again win 10 and update all drivers cuz it will be faster than going trough pointless virus scans that will take longer before they go trough like 3-4 TB of games and programs and files and find nothing... And I guess I just "learn" it the hard way myself... And I aint assuming, I am dead positive that some SW feature is causing this issue, yet its easier to blame expensive HW and telling me to replace PC or SSD than actually trying to tell me "Oh it might be in this and this so just go to regedit and delete this and that or add this" and something like that... I dont really want to be rude or ungrateful, I like when people help other people but if someone tells you that the issue is clearly not HW related, then it is not HW related and I think you might be used to "normal" PC users that know nothing about either... all I know about SW are drivers installations cuz I had my fair share of trouble with that in past years but I know a broken HW when I see it (or have it). I think imma mark this as "solved" cuz I will do it myself, it might take me a week or two but atleast I will be a bit smarter and when someone comes for help with this issue in the future, I will for sure know what specifically to do and will be able to explain it step by step, and not saying stuff like "ah man, install malwarebytes and scan all your drives, it will take just mere 6 hours to do full scans separately which means you cannot sleep or go to work while doing that, then remove drives one by one to eliminate the issue and whatnot... yeah good tips to eliminate a motherboard or a drive problem... clearly from task manager for me all tasks are the same as always... Tommorow, if I get an update on this, imma report it back here, if not then imma just close this. Sooo.. thanks lads and imma head to bed now... I really hoped to see a solution for atleast one of my problems... ♥

You fixed it by reinstalling all the drivers you had, including GPU and USB ones, mouse drivers, and some Intel software from the manufacturer site. You double-checked the Device Manager and found nothing wrong, then restarted the PC, which worked perfectly. It seems the issue was resolved without knowing exactly which driver was faulty. Marking this as solved now.
