I’m looking for ways to lower your CPU voltage to help it stay cooler and save energy. Since you don’t have a radio for your cats, you can keep them entertained with a YouTube live stream. You’re considering using BIOS tools or the EVGA program for your GPU, but you’re focusing on the CPU. Do you need recommendations for utilities or methods to adjust CPU settings?
You won't save much unless you're in an area with very high electricity costs. Today's CPUs manage power use well on their own. As @RONOTHAN## pointed out, it helps to know what you have for practical advice. Welcome to the discussion!
There are two approaches to reducing voltage on a 12700K chip: adjusting the offset or changing the static voltage. Offset adjustments may affect performance inconsistently and are more challenging to verify fully, but they tend to lower idle power. Static adjustments offer slightly better stability and can reduce full-load voltage marginally, though they usually increase idle voltage. I’d likely choose the offset method if minimizing power use is the main goal. You can apply these changes in XTU or BIOS—preferably setting them up in XTU first and then applying them to BIOS. This avoids frequent reboots while letting you tweak settings without background processes. Find the offset slider in XTU or the static voltage setting in BIOS, lower it by 10mV incrementally, and run a stress test like Prime95 Small FFTs. If it passes briefly (about two minutes), reduce again until it crashes. Once stable, return to the last working value and keep running any required tests.
