I recently built a new system and at first everything seems fine, but then I started to notice a few things not working quite right. I'm trying to figure out if this is just a settings issue or if something is defective. My build: i7-10700K on ROG STRIX Z490-E, with G.SKILL Ripjaws V (DDR4 3600) with XMP 2 profile active. PSU is Corsair RM850x, cooler is Fractal Design Celsius S24 Blackout 240mm, case is Fractal Design Focus G Black ATX Mid Tower I also have a MSI NVidia GTX 1660 Super and Sound BlasterX AE-5 Plus, as well as a TP-Link Gigabit Ethernet card (I found out that there's serious issues with the onboard ethernet due to poor implementation of 2.5Gbps support, causes severe packet loss and occasionally thinks no cable is connected) Also have EVO 970 M.2 SSD, an older Barracuda 2TB HDD via SATA III, and a LG Blu-ray drive via SATA III. Basically, I put the computer together as normal, let it do its AI Overclocking (it raised to 36% OC, then later adjusted to 39%), and also used MSI Afterburner to OC the GPU using the OC Scanner. Everything was working fine. Then I decided I wanted to enable Wake-on-LAN, since I frequently start my computer remotely from my phone, but found that when shut down it wouldn't respond to the WoL Magic Packet. I checked the BIOS settings to ensure Wake-on-LAN was enabled, as well as making sure PCI-e power during shutdown was available to keep the ethernet adapter powered. Still didn't work. Researched a bit online and found that many people found that disabling Fast Startup in Windows 10 Power Options would allow the system to boot from WoL. Here's were the real issues started... when I turned off Fast Startup and shut down the computer to try to test the WoL function, the system would shut down, but then immediately power back on again. I also noticed my monitors seemed to suddenly power off and back on, which they don't normally do when the system shuts down normally, or even on a normal reboot. The only way I could get the system to shut down and stay off was long-pressing the power button on the tower. I re-enabled Fast Startup and everything was fine again (except still no Wake-on-LAN) At this time, I was using an older Sound Blaster X-Fi card from my previous build, so I switched it out for the Sound BlasterX AE-5 Plus and found that the issue was now worse than before. For one thing, when the system would shut down (even with Fast Startup enabled), I'd hear a loud pop on my computer speakers and saw some weird colors flashing on my monitor, before the system would shut down and then immediately power back on again. I disabled all overclocking, besides XMP, and the system will now shut down properly, but I still hear the pop on my speakers when the system powers down. I don't think the issue is that the PSU isn't strong enough, but I have to wonder if there's something else going on that I'm not thinking of... It seems like there's some kind of power surge when the system shuts down, which is causing it to immediately turn back on. (Even though the BIOS setting is to remain off after a power failure)
The bios and drivers are currently the newest versions, so I'm skeptical about that helping. Still, I thought it might be worth trying to reset the CMOS... not the best approach, but if it solves the problem, fine. I've also purchased some Cablemod cables because I wasn't satisfied with the ones included with the PSU—they're terrible for managing cables, so I'm wondering if simply reconnecting everything could fix the issue.
