I'm evaluating CPU options for gaming and streaming. Both the 9800x3D and 9950x3D seem suitable, but my main focus is on performance for media tasks. I’m leaning toward the 9800x3D since I likely won’t need the extra cores for non-gaming work. For streaming and background processes, having more cores could help, though I’m unsure about core management settings. The documentation suggests games are capped in cache memory, which might affect efficiency. If background tasks are limited, spending on a 4090 and swapping in a 13700K could be worthwhile. Cost isn’t the main issue—avoiding wasted cores is.

Great to hear! You understood the 9800x3D wouldn’t need to worry about parking, but you were worried about losing some processing power.

It's still an impressive 8-core/16-thread performance. The 9950X3D comes at a higher price point than the 9800X3D. However, you also have the middle choice of the 9900X3D with 12 cores available.

More cores don't always mean better performance. The 9800X3D handles any task smoothly. If cores are essential, choose the 9950X3D. For streamers and background activities, the 9800X3D is sufficient.

More processing units improve efficiency when multiple tasks run, and keeping cores active helps maintain performance. On my machine, background processes have been consuming CPU power, negatively affecting game speed. I’m curious about whether non-3D cores remain engaged during gaming sessions, especially with CCD changes, to ensure they’re contributing without slowing things down. Knowing this would help me understand the system’s behavior better.

It seems you're curious about the performance of a 9740hx ROG Strix G17 with 32 cores. You mentioned not wanting to sacrifice its 16-core/32-thread capabilities, and you're also aware that a 55W rating might be misleading. Your experience with 100W power usage suggests you're getting solid performance without overcommitting on cooling or power limits.

I understand. VCache is decent but not essential. Many think regular Ryzen can handle games. Everyone seems to want to be a hardcore gamer now... it’s time to upgrade to flagships, otherwise it’s just waste of money.
