The maximum specifications for DP and HDMI depend on the connection type. If both your CPU and monitor use Thunderbolt 4, the specs will reflect what that interface supports, not just your CPU's performance. The processor doesn't limit the output in this case.

Thunderbolt transmits DisplayPort data, so the upper bound depends mainly on the CPU's integrated graphics capabilities through DP. Even if your GPU can handle 4K, it won't exceed what the GPU itself supports directly. The actual performance is controlled by the weakest component in the setup. For instance, a 1440p GPU paired with a 4K cable caps the output at 1440p, while a 1080p cable would restrict it to 1080p.

DP is the standard TB uses, which is helpful to know. The monitor I’m planning to use has a 38-inch display at 144Hz with a resolution of 3840x1600. I believe the CPU should support this based on its 120Hz DP rating. However, I’m not sure about the long-term impact of running it nonstop all day while it’s connected to the dock.

I believe the CPU should support this based on its 120Hz DP rating. However, I’m not sure about the long-term impact of running it nonstop all day while it’s connected to the dock.

Desktop mode works fine. Just keep in mind you won’t be able to run high frame rates like 120 fps on such a resolution unless the games are quite old.

Probably though I'm uncertain. The upper limit on resolution and refresh rate is usually determined by the ports available. DisplayPort 1.4a supports up to 25.92 Gbps, whereas HDMI 2.1 can reach 41.92 Gbps. For HDMI, a max resolution of 4096 x 2304 at 60 Hz needs only 14.25 Gbps, which is far below the HDMI 2.1 capability. I suspect this might be an error in their specs or an iGPU constraint. Conversely, DP 1.4a demands 49.65 Gbps for 7680 x 4320 at 60 Hz, surpassing its limit. Likely they compensate with a lower color format (like YCbCr 4:2:0 at 24.82 Gbps) or display stream compression (DSC x2 at 24.82 Gbps). A 3840 x 1600 @ 144 Hz setup needs 23.22 Gbps, which is above DP 1.4a’s 25.92 Gbps but below DP 2.0’s 32.4 Gbps, suggesting it could work over DP if using a suitable cable like HBR3 (32.4 Gbps).
