I just reinstalled Windows 11 on my computer. The original sign-in details didn’t work, so I created a Microsoft account, set up a local admin account, and removed the old one. Now the main drive shows a long, unfamiliar owner with special permissions. I’m unsure if deleting it would help or cause issues. Any advice?

Use Rufus to generate a Windows 11 bootable USB drive, which will let you pick a local account during setup. The account is set up automatically when installing, prompting you with the desired username at disk creation.

It seems the setup didn’t remove every partition from the drive, so you’ll have to clear them all before beginning again. To start fresh, delete all partitions and then use the installation to create new ones for Windoze. Stay safe and succeed!

I considered doing it but didn’t have time to research. Perhaps I’ll try again later. Got it. I didn’t erase all the partitions on the drive. I’m a bit anxious since the computer is still under warranty and I wasn’t sure about those other partitions. Maybe I already broke the warranty by reinstalling Windows, who knows? All I remember is the computer was freezing and I was told to reinstall it.

It appears these are recovery disks, probably from a brand like Western Digital or Seagate. They hold the original image needed to reinstall the system.

It's an HP EliteDesk G6 SFF model. I think there might be an original image inside, which is another reason I hesitated to delete it.

That sounds interesting! I think I might give it a shot once I have the chance. The machine appears to function now, though the mysterious "unknown user" will remain a concern even if it doesn’t crash again.

The machine stopped working again. It's not being used much, just a few apps open. They probably plan to return it for warranty reasons. Another thought is a peripheral—like a monitor or webcam—is causing the issue, though I'm not sure. The reliability report indicated the Windows OS didn't respond. I ran a MemTest and saw no issues.
