Unattended system performance drop.
My computer started acting slow while I was working. Before this, I used Adobe Photoshop and had Chrome open with a YouTube video playing in the background. Suddenly, the audio stopped and the video froze. At first, I thought my internet connection failed and the video was just buffering. When I refreshed Chrome, it became extremely slow, making replaying the video feel like a PowerPoint show. I checked Photoshop too but found that Alt-Tab between apps was also problematic. While monitoring temperatures with HWMonitor, the readings stayed normal until the slowdown began. After rebooting, the problem disappeared. However, during this time, the Photoshop file I was editing became corrupted. Event Manager couldn't identify the cause. Someone mentioned a similar issue happened before in January when my father used the same PC; he fixed it by restarting the system. I’m curious about possible reasons for this and ways to avoid it next time. Here are my specifications: CPU – Ryzen 7 3700X, RAM – Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 2x8GB, 3200MHz, Cooler – CoolerMaster Hyper 212 LED Turbo White, GPU – Colorful iGame RTX 3060 Ti, Motherboard – ASUS B550-A, Storage – Samsung 870 QVO 1TB (OS), Drive – Seagate Barracuda 2TB.
Ensure your PC is ready for a fresh start by following the necessary steps to restart and reinstall Windows.
This problem might need a full Windows reset if it’s been running for roughly eight months.
It operated smoothly for roughly three hours before it abruptly froze, leaving only the cursor functional. Before this problem arose, my main applications were Photoshop, Chrome, and HWMonitor. I verified the cables and inspected the case interior, but everything appeared intact. The sole notable incident was the unexpected shutdown log after rebooting the system.
It's hard to pinpoint the exact symptoms now, but everything seems to be functioning properly after the restart. The temperatures displayed on HWMonitor look normal, and Task Manager isn't showing any unusual activity. I should note that this problem has only happened twice in the past eight months since I assembled my PC. I'm hoping for a way to prevent it moving forward.
