I initially bought a Samsung 980 Pro 2Tb M2 SSD but it wouldn't work in the main slot, so I had to install it in the secondary slot. I'm considering adding another M2 drive since games take up a lot of space. Do anyone have tips or have faced similar issues but managed to set it up? My system runs an AMD 3700X CPU, 16GB of 3200 14GB RAM, and a Nvidia 3080FE. Thanks in advance for any advice!
I don't have access to the current BIOS version of the board. You can check it by opening the BIOS settings during startup or using a manufacturer-provided tool.
I have identical boards and CPUs; no problems with slot 1 across any BIOS. Still worth testing the newest BIOS if not already installed. Review all BIOS configurations to confirm nothing is turned off, and consider resetting CMOS. Since slot 2 uses the chipset while slot 1 is CPU-based, removing the CPU might help. Inspect pins for bending, dirt, or missing connections, verify the socket condition, and reinstall. If none work, is RMA still viable?
It makes sense to refresh the system after the latest BIOS update. Since then, several enhancements were released: Version 4403 includes AMD AM4 AGESA V2 PI 1.2.0.7 with fixes for fTPM issues and random stuttering, followed by Version 4204 which adds performance boosts and stability improvements for AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D. You might also want to look into firmware updates for the 980 Pro SSD before installing it in the first drive slot, and consider the bmx6454 recommendation to power off the CPU, inspect the system, and reinstall it, along with resetting the BIOS to default settings.
My board is already out since release day, so returns aren't an option. I've changed the BIOS sometimes based on AGESA status and problems people are seeing. I haven't replaced the CPU yet, assuming it's fine if it works. I wish I had upgraded to M2 sooner, but the cost was a concern at the time. I plan to swap in a 5800X3D in the next few days and hope I can resolve this beforehand. I'll share updates after the CPU change.
Updated the BIOS and swapped out the CPU (installed 5800X3D), then inserted another drive into slot M2_1, but it remains unrecognized. It seems the board might be having an issue. Appreciate the advice from everyone.
