Unable to upgrade MacOS
I received my dad's old MacBook Air from mid-2011. After updating, I attempted to install macOS Sierra because it was compatible, but the app store only listed macOS High Sierra, which needs a newer version. It looks like there’s no way to get Mac OS Sierra without High Sierra. With your laptop specs in mind—10.7.5 Mac OS X Lion, 4GB RAM, Intel graphics—I wonder if someone else has faced this problem before.
Only the latest release is currently available, while previous versions require someone who started the download to access them. You'll need to obtain an older version from another Mac user to make the upgrade. If the App Store supports High Sierra, you might be able to create a bootable USB and perform a fresh installation. When the download doesn't start in the Updates section, try using the Purchases tab instead.
It seems the system is restricting downloads of High Sierra due to your OS version, even though your MacBook Air supports it. Could you confirm whether it blocks installation or just prevents downloading?
Thank you for your assistance. The process of upgrading was quite time-consuming. I required a direct link to the App Store to install Mac OS Sierra. After that, I needed to update my account information via another Apple product, as this laptop was outdated. Once the setup was complete, I proceeded with the upgrade. The following day, I installed Mac OS High Sierra.
