I recently switched to an MSI 4090 Gaming Trio X, replacing my previous MSI 2080ti model. I encountered problems with certain USB monitors that I’m struggling to resolve. My system specs are: 9900K MSI MEG Z390 ACE G.Skill Trident Z 32GB MSI 4090 Gaming Trio X EVGA P2 1200W PSU Windows 10 Build 19045. I’m deeply involved in flight simulators and have a home cockpit setup with a total of seven displays. Three use DisplayPort, one uses HDMI, and three are USB screens running DisplayLink drivers. These USB displays connect via a powered USB hub plugged into a 3.0 port on my PC, while the rest link directly to the GPU. When using the 2080ti, everything functions perfectly. However, with the 4090, launching any game causes crashes during startup. The error messages include graphics adapter failures, DX12 unsupported, out-of-video memory, and DirectX issues. Removing the USB displays resolves the problem without needing a restart. I’ve tried reinstalling drivers, uninstalling DisplayLink, running DDU, updating NVIDIA drivers, and even adjusting GPU settings in both NVDA and Windows Graphics. Still, I’m unsure why the issue appears differently on the 4090 versus the 2080ti. It seems these USB monitors might be detected as a display adapter in Device Manager, possibly confusing the system when launching games. One time, COD MW2 worked with the displays connected, but now it fails repeatedly. I’ve checked the CUDA settings and manually set each game to use the 4090 in high performance mode. I’m still trying to figure this out, but any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forums! That is a *niche* use case. I think you may have to put in a bug report to NV. From my speed read of your description, I don't think you've mentioned launching the game, then plugging in the USB displays. Is that the case? If so, I'd like to know what it did. One option would be to grab a second, low grade GPU and use that for your ancillary monitors as described in this reddit post https://old.reddit.com/r/hardware/commen...rs_a_case/

Hello, thank you for your response. I've already attempted this; it seems to function properly in the game by preventing crashes after launching the displays, though it doesn't fully solve my issue since I need the displays connected beforehand. Regarding the second GPU option, it appears to be a viable solution but I currently lack the necessary space for one. I have two PCI slots occupied by an Ethernet card and a USB expansion card.
