Hi, your i7-8700 (non-K) is heating up quickly with all the coolers you've tried. The AIO model with just one fan and the others like Goldenfield T-Dragon and Gammax 300 all reach 100°C almost instantly when you run heavy tasks. You mentioned the CPU core clock is capped at 1.22V due to overvoltage from the motherboard (Z370 PC Pro) and have already changed thermal paste multiple times. It seems the heat spreader might be faulty, as the CPU gets hot to the touch. Consider checking the cooler placement, ensuring proper airflow, and verifying the thermal paste application.
It doesn't work well on my i7-8700. It only runs Minecraft on IGpu for demo purposes, and even then it crashes at 100c instantly.
Thanks for the reply. Goldenfield was really bad. Gammax 300 claims it's designed for 130W, but even then, the CPU throttles to just 30W while maintaining 100°C and using a Deepcool Gamer Storm Maelstrom 120T AIO.
That aio seems worse than the gammax. Are you certain you applied enough thermal paste and installed the gammax correctly? It could be a mounting problem since the gammax is designed to handle it, though it still exceeds normal TDP limits. What are the idle temperatures on your 8700?
While browsing online it feels like time is slowing down to 50c. I haven’t updated the factory paste on GammaX yet, so it’s already applied (a tiny bit shouldn’t cause a problem)
What's the temperature inside? The price tag of 50 cents seems extremely steep for low power operation.
