Unable to restore Windows 11 following the motherboard upgrade.
Hello everyone, I recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU and planned a complete Windows 11 installation. When trying to activate Windows, I keep encountering error 0x803FABB8. Even after using the troubleshooter, it doesn’t resolve the issue. My old PC appears in the troubleshooter to reactivate Windows, but it reports that the license was already used for a previous activation attempt.
When I first built my system, I started with a Windows 10 license, upgraded to Windows 10 Pro via the Microsoft Store, then moved to Windows 11 before changing hardware. The instructions suggest reaching out to Microsoft for support, but the contact process is confusing. It keeps directing me to the help app, which keeps insisting there’s a newer version available—something that doesn’t seem to exist.
I’d really prefer not to reinstall Windows again, as it would be frustrating given all my work on the machine. If anyone has advice on how to contact Microsoft properly or find a solution without reinstalling, I’d appreciate any guidance. Thank you.
On the Microsoft site, you'd expect to find the "contact us" section.
The phone line isn't functional with Microsoft support since it redirects you to a troubleshooting page that doesn't provide useful assistance.
