Not every number means something. I also considered the IP address could be the issue, but since another friend connected through 192.168.xxx.xx:25565 and it functioned, I thought everything was okay.

I understand the numbers are important. I was checking if the friend shared his private or public contact info. To avoid any mix-up, ask him to visit this site: https://www.whatismyip.com/. This will show you his public IP address. Once you have it, you can try connecting using that address.
