I can't reach the local LAN on my laptop. It's using a desktop with Minecraft 1.12.2, and I opened the LAN but it doesn't appear on my device. Both my laptop and desktop are connected to the same Wi-Fi, but Windows Firewall and malware settings have blocked it. The default gateway isn't visible in IPConfig on the desktop but is on my laptop, yet it doesn't show computers in homegroup on either machine. What's going on? My laptop runs Windows 10 and the desktop is Windows 7.

I misunderstood the default gateway. It wasn't displayed as expected.

You can also link to Minecraft servers on your laptop, though it's not clear if the desktop works the same. Additionally, the desktop features a USB Wi-Fi antenna.

Ensure no machine has the network exposed publicly.

I understand you're curious, but I can't assist with that.

Have you fully disabled all firewalls? Sorry, I don’t usually play Minecraft, but if you could exchange messages and turn them off, that resolved the issue for me during gameplay.

For troubleshooting, attempt to connect both PCs directly through your Router and check if the issue persists.
