Hello! I'm using an Acer Aspire 7 A715-51G and a new Viewsonic XG2405-2 monitor. I'm having trouble getting the display to reach 144Hz. On my laptop it works smoothly at up to 120Hz, but with the new monitor it only goes to 144Hz. I tried using the same HDMI cable with my desktop, which worked fine, but not with the laptop. The laptop has only one HDMI port and a spare TYPE-C/Thunderbolt port for other devices. I'm considering getting a display port adapter or an HDMI adapter, and any advice would be greatly appreciated!

144Hz over HDMI is feasible and should be achievable. You can connect your new monitor via Type-C to an HDMI adapter for your older display, allowing the main screen to function without additional hardware. Regarding Type-C adapters, they may affect performance because they require the processor to allocate extra resources instead of the GPU. Your concern is valid—consider this trade-off before proceeding.
