I've been really irritated recently with Windows 11. I've been using my laptop with an external monitor for quite a while now. And I usually kept the laptop closed for most of the time. For convenience I usually put my laptop to sleep when I'm done (If there is a way to power on a laptop without pressing the power button please let me know, LOL) . To power it off would rather inconvenient, because I have to open and closed the laptop. I recently upgraded to a Windows 11 laptop. For some reason it wont woke up when I pressed my keyboard (external) or mouse, heck even sometimes when I pressed the laptop's keyboard it also wont wake up. I have to press the power button to wake it up from sleep. I never had this problem with any windows 10 devices. Only windows 11 that had been having this issue. Please is there a fox to this? I want to be able to wake up the laptop using an external keyboard or mouse.

If you recall Windows 11, it tends to react negatively when you wake it up or if your storage devices become inactive. Try simply shutting down the laptop to turn off the screen and then search online for instructions on how to disable sleep in Windows 11.

I've considered two scenarios. One suggests that starting quickly might interfere with waking from sleep, and turning it off can resolve the problem in certain situations. This method is typically recommended for Windows 10 and possibly Windows 11. The other proposes shutting down drives and the screen without entering sleep mode, which could lower power use without triggering the issue. For my 5900X build, I don't recall disabling quick startup fixing it, though another problem with RAM stability required a complete hardware change. Today, a fresh install appears to be working without this setting, indicating potential instability if the fix isn't applied.

For the power configuration you're using: Ensure Hybrid Sleep is turned off. This setting will put the system to sleep and usually needs a power button press to resume. On desktops, verify that the 'USB selective suspend' option is disabled. This prevents USB devices from drawing power during sleep, so disabling it ensures the keyboard and mouse stay on even when asleep. Additionally, access Device Manager, navigate to the USB devices and keyboard/mouse panels, and under the "Power Management" section, make sure these items are set to remain active during system sleep. If available, enable the option to wake the system. Finally, review your laptop's UEFI/BIOS settings to confirm similar options exist, allowing USB ports to stay powered while sleeping so the system can resume easily.
