I gave the old machine to a friend; it seems to be producing an unusual clicking noise. It hasn’t been a fan lately, and it doesn’t sound like typical fan activity. Anyone have any ideas?

I struggle to identify the sound in the video, but often a new clicking noise when a PC starts can indicate a failing hard drive. Ask your friend to power off the computer and disconnect the hard drive, then restart it. Check if the clicking persists without the drive connected. If it stops when unplugged, the drive is likely faulty—replace it and back up any important files.

The sound you're referring to likely occurs at a specific moment in the video where the volume is maximized, making it easier to distinguish between your movement and other noises.

It seems like the hard drive is spinning rapidly, which isn't ideal. I'm not entirely sure what this means.

It was my second idea—its HDD hadn’t been used much recently, yet it was nearly five years old. If he’s now playing games, it’s likely too outdated for optimal performance. I recommended installing a new SSD.
