It seems I had to leave everything else out except the RAM, CPU, and cooler on the motherboard, and I also had to take the motherboard out of the case. Since I used a cheap case back then, I think that contributed to how difficult it was to remove it.

Move gently along the narrow edges near the main length, push straight up without moving sideways.

There are tiny tabs on the plug that fit into the header from the inside. A precision flat head screwdriver was used to carefully separate a bit of space between the plug and header, allowing the tabs to loosen so you can remove it. Note: In some plugs, the tabs are on the back side. This image is shown from the front.

Turn the curved arrow 90 degrees. Move it back and forth horizontally, following the direction of the main axis.

just encountered the same problem again. the USB 3.0 connector is really frustrating. i also had a basic case and thought about using a budget front panel header to match it. since it didn’t have many ports, i needed to detach the case port. i tried pulling, twisting, and yanking for almost half an hour without any success, which left me stuck. there was little guidance available, but at least i got reassurance i wasn’t making a huge mistake. i inserted a pocket knife between the MOBO port and the plug, bent the plastic housing outward so none of the tabs held, and still nothing worked. eventually, i just kept pushing until it broke completely. i was really disappointed because i had to deal with all this trouble. finally, i managed to remove the MOBO and get a usable header in place. installing the new front panel connectors was surprisingly easy—just plug one in and leave the other. but why did it take so long?
