I attempted to assemble a budget-friendly Ryzen setup for routine tasks and light gaming. I used an MSI A320M PRO-VD/S V2 motherboard with a BIOS update to support newer Ryzen 3200G chips (16GB, 3200MHz, 2x8GB) and a Sapphire RX470 for mining. The PSU came from Corsair, and I repurposed an older GPU from my i5 4590, which functioned as a display output without issues. After switching to this system, I noticed the BIOS blocked discrete GPU selection in Windows 10. Initially, I tried various BIOS tweaks—disabling re-bar, enabling higher decoding, adjusting PCIe lanes—but the GPU remained detected in Device Manager. Drivers loaded normally, and the status reported as working. When I re-enabled re-bar, I could select RX470 as a performance option again. After restarting the PC, both power-saving and performance modes worked once more. To test further, I used an OEM GT730 motherboard consistently, even after rebooting. I also tried the RX470 on my previous machine, which is now shared with my girlfriend, and it operated without problems. Still, I’m puzzled—why does this setup suddenly function? Could it be an issue with AMD’s integrated GPU combination, or something else entirely? If so, what caused it to work temporarily? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

This setup isn't my primary rig, it's just a small project using parts I already had. I think it would be simpler to install a fully functional GPU and call it finished. Since I enjoy experimenting with specialized setups, I thought an APU would fit like a classic i5 with a GPU. I spent some time testing and was surprised it ran smoothly, just like the Intel version. That sparked my interest, so I posted hoping someone else facing a similar issue might have noticed it first. Regarding disabling the IGPU, I tried that too and got similar results—poor driver setup led to low FPS or screen tearing. I’ll keep testing and update you if you're interested.
