Hey everyone, I set up STEAM on Debian 11 but it won’t start because of dependency issues. I also can’t launch it as the root user—Steam keeps sending warnings about that. Have anyone else faced this problem?

I installed it by following the instructions on the page. The site mentions enabling i386 architecture.

Did you use APT to install Steam or did you download the binary directly? The Steam Powered website creates a DEB package for Ubuntu, not Debian. This is the proper way to install Steam

I saved the file directly from the Steam site and used the GDebi installer. I read through the instructions, but it looks like the dependencies aren’t set up for automatic installation. I’ll attempt it once more.

I downloaded the package from Steampowered and added it to the system. It appears the Steam option isn’t being removed, even after using `sudo apt-get remove steam`. I’ll look at the provided link for more details.

Follow the instructions to add the i386 architecture in the guide, then the installation should work.

The only guideline for Debian is to avoid that. https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian For the link you shared, it requires i386 (32-bit) and non-free options enabled. If you have those set up, let us know which dependencies fail to install.

Hey there! I see you're dealing with some new issues. Got it installed, right? I followed the instructions and updated Steam, but it kept stopping. At this stage, I had to start fresh. The Debian Software app wasn't removing Steam, so I removed it from my applications folder. I used this link: https://linuxhint.com/fully-uninstall-st...om-ubuntu/ to uninstall it. After that, I reinstalled the necessary package with sudo apt install libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386 and was able to log in. Now I'm checking if I can play something and whether everything still functions after rebooting. D
