Unable to access BIOS, yet the computer displays the boot logo.
Hello everyone, I’m currently getting my first home server up using some components I’ve collected over the years. Right now it’s mainly for running Minecraft and similar games, and I plan to upgrade it into a NAS for file storage later. I’m encountering a problem where the keyboard isn’t being recognized during startup. When I power on the PC/server, it shows the “Gigabyte Insist on Ultra Durable” boot logo with BIOS hotkeys below. I’ve tried pressing del, f2, f9, or f12 to enter BIOS and select a boot drive, but nothing happens—just that screen remains. I’ve gone through several troubleshooting steps: swapped RAM, reset CMOS, replaced the CMOS battery, installed a new battery for the CMOS, added my GPU, used a PS/2 keyboard, installed a pre-installed Windows drive, and double-checked basic connections like CPU power, motherboard power, and RAM placement. Despite these efforts, the issue still persists. I have a speaker for boot codes, but it doesn’t display any error or warning. The parts were my main build before I upgraded, and I lent them to a friend for a year while they waited for their own components. Last month in their setup everything worked fine, and I kept the build secure. The keyboard is getting power from USB ports, yet it doesn’t register any input. My motherboard specs are: CPU Ryzen 3 2200G, RAM Corsair Vengeance 2400MHz (16GB total), motherboard Gigabyte A320M-S2H, PSU EVA 500W. I really appreciate any advice or help to fix this. Thanks. Joey
Here are some additional troubleshooting ideas you might not have considered. Experiment with another keyboard or USB port on your computer. Reset the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes, then reinsert it. Check if updating the BIOS to the newest release helps. Start with just one RAM stick installed. Try booting without the CPU, motherboard, and power supply connected. Use a different power supply if possible. Test on another motherboard. Switch the CPU or graphics card. I’m confident one of these steps will resolve your problem. Good luck!
After trying every solution under the sun (and thanks to the people who commented with advice), I stumbled upon a weird solution after I had given up all hope, and tried as a last resort. Here's a quick rundown: If you haven't updated your BIOS in a while, remove your M.2 SSD. Prior to this, I had tried everything multiple times: I attempted my GPU again, removed the CMOS battery again, reset the CMOS using a jumper, tried a different PSU, and swapped out the RAM, etc, multiple times. Eventually, I randomly decided to remove my SSD again after clearing the CMOS, and it worked. I was able to boot into the BIOS. The SSD is new and doesn't have any data on it, so I think my BIOS was simply too old and needed an update. Thank you again to everyone that helped me! Joey
