Unable to access BIOS after RAM overclocking.
Unable to access BIOS after RAM overclocking.
I recently began experimenting with overclocking on my PC: CPU model Ryzen 5 3600, RAM set to stock while overclocking, a single 16GB Lexar module rated at 3200 MT/s at 1.2V, an RTX 3060 graphics card, a 12G Boost RAM module from Asus Prime B450M-K, an Asus ROG Strix 750W power supply. I chose to tackle this challenge independently and decided to follow the instructions from an integralfx guide. Initially, everything functioned well, achieving a solid +10% boost over the base configuration. After thorough testing using all recommended techniques from the guide, I settled on these settings: Frequency 3266 MHz, FCLK 1633 MHz, CPU Voltage 1.35V, DRAM Voltage 1.15V, SOC Voltage 1.15V, CCD 1.0V, IOD 1.05V, and timing adjustments for stability. Overall, the results were satisfactory. When I ran an OCCT AVX2 memory test at 90% capacity for about 20 minutes, I wanted to fine-tune the timings further. I restarted my system and prepared to enter BIOS via the DLC key, but encountered a persistent issue. The boot screen remained blank with an unusually long black display, redirecting me straight to Windows. Despite multiple reboots and attempts to boot into UEFI from Windows Recovery, I couldn’t access the BIOS. I reset the CMOS repeatedly to undo timing changes, yet the BIOS screen never appeared. Even when I booted without any configuration changes, I couldn’t see the BIOS interface and remained locked in Windows. This situation raises questions about potential causes—could the RAM be failing due to wear from high voltage? If so, I’d need to redo the process using a lower DRAM voltage. Additional details that might assist: My BIOS was recently upgraded from version V4202 to V4401. Please let me know if you require further information. Thank you for your assistance!
Reset CMOS again, and when BIOS loads, adjust to suggested configurations. Save changes during reboot. When restored to default, verify you can enter BIOS without resetting CMOS. If possible, apply the setting like "press power button 3+ seconds on boot to enter BIOS." This ensures compatibility with fast boot modes that skip the BIOS screen. Follow such instructions to save your preferences as a profile. Then search for options such as "hold power button during boot for 3 seconds to access BIOS." The exact wording may vary by manufacturer. This allows you to customize RAM settings and other parameters without repeatedly resetting CMOS each time.
The issue isn't about a fast boot setting. I was adjusting timings and then restarted, but when I powered on, the BIOS disappeared entirely and I couldn't access it (even with overclock enabled). I also tried pressing the power button repeatedly during boot, but nothing worked. It seems there might be a problem with the RAM stick. What else can I try?
