Ultra low FPS gameplay in Minecraft
Ultra low FPS gameplay in Minecraft
I chose to dive back into Minecraft to try and rejoin the competitive scene. Unfortunately, my FPS performance is quite poor for some reason. My old GTX 670 could handle 500+ frames, but my GTX 980 is struggling, often dropping below 150 with occasional 30s spikes. Any suggestions? The frame cap is off, and I've installed OptiFine, but I'm not sure what the impact is.
Check for any installed mods, attempted a fresh Minecraft install. Monitor CPU and GPU usage.
How many chunks are you uploading? With my GTX 980 TI in 4K, all the chunks loading and many users, I get 40-60.
CPU utilization sits around 10%, though that’s mainly due to my Xeon ignoring most tasks. In CS:GO they rarely hit 20% GPU usage, which usually ranges from 35% to 50%. I suspect RAM plays a role, especially if you’ve seen similar trends in the comments above.
Need extra memory? Check CPU activity. Rendering fresh terrain? See how it performs. Running without OptiFine? Results are strong—200+ with shaders and 64 textures.
I provided 6GB, but it continues this behavior. It follows a rigid pattern, increasing from 0% to 100% RAM in 2% increments, freezing near 90%, then returning to 5% and gradually rising again.
