Hello, I understand you're using a MacBook Air from 2017 for programming and browsing the web. You're feeling constrained by Catalina and are considering switching to Ubuntu. I've done this before, but it came with many challenges. Would it help if someone would share their experience and guide you through the process? Thanks!

You're experiencing problems with Ubuntu on your MacBook Air due to Wi-Fi connectivity issues. It seems the Linux environment is not functioning properly, and you prefer using macOS instead.

I faced issues with Wi-Fi, sleep settings, and battery status. When switching to Linux, the Mac OS part became corrupted and prevented booting due to grub problems.

It looks like you're planning to set up a VM with Ubuntu and use macOS for the rest. That should work fine.

I can’t operate VMs due to limited space on the 128Gb SSD. I’m also considering a used ThinkPad for Linux if it performs better than my current MacBook. I plan to test it for one or two weeks.

Set up the exclusive Broadcom drivers (Broadcom-WL). This should resolve the issue. I haven’t experienced this on my 2012 MBP; if needed, keep a backup of your MacOS partition just in case.
