It's possible a graphics card driver was set up for your desktop but not your laptop, especially if your desktops and laptops use different GPU brands. You might attempt to install Ubuntu directly on your laptop (though I'm curious why you didn't do this before...) or manually apply the correct driver again after moving the hard drive back.
I can't set it up directly on the laptop since it's missing its display. Only the operating system shows through HDMI, not the BIOS or boot menu. The laptop uses integrated Intel graphics, while the desktop has an NVIDIA GPU. I also can't connect it to Wi-Fi.
