You took out the hard drive from your laptop, it stopped working and showed a purple screen, and after installing Ubuntu on your main computer, the issue persists. Please let me know what you see when you boot up.

It's possible a graphics card driver was set up for your desktop but not your laptop, especially if your desktops and laptops use different GPU brands. You might attempt to install Ubuntu directly on your laptop (though I'm curious why you didn't do this before...) or manually apply the correct driver again after moving the hard drive back.

I can't set it up directly on the laptop since it's missing its display. Only the operating system shows through HDMI, not the BIOS or boot menu. The laptop uses integrated Intel graphics, while the desktop has an NVIDIA GPU. I also can't connect it to Wi-Fi.

It seems there might be an issue with the laptop. You should attempt to install the Intel driver using the command: sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel

I can't set up Wi-Fi, but I'll remove the hard drive and attempt it again tomorrow.
