You're facing an issue where the installation of Ubuntu 4.10 doesn't display the login or desktop screen after finishing the setup. It seems the live CD worked, but the actual installation process is causing problems. Since you're not familiar with Linux, this might be confusing. Have you tried installing any packages online before?

No specific reason was given for choosing this older version of Ubuntu. It might be due to compatibility needs, personal preference, or testing purposes.

This machine feels quite old, originally running Windows XP.

The repository for that Ubuntu release is likely no longer available; consider newer options. Expect limited support since the distribution has aged significantly. For budget builds, MX Linux remains a popular option.

Lubuntu works well on budget machines too. Why are you burning CDs? A USB drive would be enough instead. Using something older than three years isn’t a smart choice for Linux—it brings security risks, glitches, or missing features.

It's a bit outdated, but it should work fine for older files. You might need to upgrade for smoother performance.

Attempted installation failed; system froze immediately instead of launching. Linux Lite functioned properly, but I can't use apt-get anymore.
