To access the HD drive, you'd need a PoE injector and link a camera to it. Would Wi-Fi cameras capture footage via UDP?

Unifi Protect is limited to Unifi cameras only, though wireless options exist. The UVC-G3-Mini was once priced similarly to Wyze, excluding server and storage costs, but its price has risen significantly recently. There’s a community effort that supports any RTSP camera in Protect, and it functions properly. Wyze cameras struggle with RTSP—requiring a different firmware and often causing streaming problems.

Supported Ubiquiti devices can capture footage on the UDM Pro, UDM Pro SE, or NVR. Wi-Fi cameras connect via standard power outlets. Wired cameras require a Poe injector or switch. The UDM Pro SE includes a built-in Poe switch.

To operate the HD drive in the dump, I’d need a PoE injector and link a camera to it. Will Wi-Fi cameras capture footage via the UDP stream? Thank you for the update—I’m excited about purchasing wireless surveillance cameras and using their recording capabilities.

The UDM-Pro lacks PoE ports, meaning you must either obtain a PoE switch or employ individual PoE injectors for camera power. The UDM-Pro-SE offers PoE compatibility across all 8 ports—6 standard and 2 PoE+—provided the cameras meet these requirements. You can connect them directly if supported. For scenarios with more cameras than available ports, a switch becomes necessary.

Even with wireless cameras, he doesn't require the SE.

You'll mount a hard drive into the UDMP, enabling the Protect app to access and manage recordings. You can connect any UniFi protect camera—such as the G3 Instant or Doorbell via Wi-Fi—and it will capture footage. For wired APs or cameras, you'll need POE injectors for each device unless a POE switch is provided with the UDMP.

I strongly suggest using the udmpSE instead of the standard pro. It lets you manage cameras and access points. The port speeds are impressive—2.5gb rj45 and 10gb sfp+. It's odd to skip Ubiquiti access points since they're managed through the Dream Machine Pro console. In my view, the Dream Machine Pro is largely ineffective without Poe, as it's the main reason for using it to control your access points and capture footage from your cameras.

I remain able to reach distant locations and log into the UDPM, but not via PoE. I plan to secure two access points and possibly add cameras later.
