I’m sharing this because I haven’t noticed it reported before. Just a reminder to everyone facing tough economic times—Ubiquiti is now imposing tariff surcharges on certain items. While I see this as a legitimate approach for businesses, I also believe customers shouldn’t have to wait until the final checkout step to learn about it.

Yes, it’s the same process they’ve used before for EU shoppers buying from US sites.

In the US, sales tax serves as the U.S. version of VAT. It’s collected by state and local authorities, meaning your exact address would determine the rate applied. This system is consistent across purchases—online or in stores—and always includes a fixed percentage based on location. In contrast, international purchases often vary widely, with specific products affected clearly marked.

I noticed a short on YouTube about this topic. Personally, I prefer companies adding a small fee at checkout rather than increasing prices outright. I think many businesses that raised prices due to tariffs won’t lower them once the tariffs are removed, instead choosing to keep the extra profit. Still, I get why it’s frustrating when the store doesn’t clearly warn you a product will be affected by a tariff before you add it to your cart.
