I'm looking into purchasing a PoE router from Ubiquiti's EdgeRouter lineup. I want to confirm whether their UniFi access points can function without the UniFi controller, but I haven't found clear guidance on this. Need some clarification.
Use a unified controller for initial setup of a Unifi AP, but keep it off most of the time for everyday tasks.
To configure Unifi APs, the controller software must be installed at a central location. If you set it up on a single machine, updates for future changes require using that exact computer. Otherwise, you’ll need to apply them to your new controller version, which will reset all existing configurations.
I discovered that because I’m only setting up for APs, I can set them up in standalone mode via their mobile app on my device. https://help.ubnt.com/hc/en-us/articles/115012360487
Curious about the standalone feature. I also got a mention of hostifi.net, a third-party hosting solution for the Unifi controller in the cloud. It offers a free plan supporting up to 25 devices.
This seems intriguing, and I'm sure you'll explore the website further!
