Hey everyone! I just upgraded from a 5600X to a 5800X3D and began testing right after booting up. I noticed something interesting about the temperatures. My ROG Ryujin 2 360mm AIO ran well below 65°C, but the 5800X3D hit around 72°C during Fire Strike on 3D Mark. After a CPU-Z stress test, it peaked at 82°C under heavy load—still high for my setup, especially with a quality paste. Then I checked Cinebench R23; it spiked to 88°C, which made me a bit anxious since the room stays around 25°C. Is this typical behavior for the 5800X3D in a 360mm AIO, or should I be worried? Thanks!
These temperatures are ideal for a 5800x3D setup; real-world performance tests rarely match this level of realism.
These are quite impressive compared to other 5800X3D models. They perform well at around 85-90°C when under stress.
The issue lies in comparing a 65W TDP CPU with a 105W TDP CPU. The 5800X3D lacks an ECO mode, so I've fixed it by running it at 4GHz all cores, which caps the voltage to 1.125V maximum. Temperatures reach about 65°C. If you're not too picky and adjust voltages and frequencies a bit more, undervolting should still reduce performance impact with minimal loss.
Thanks for the support, it really helps ease my concerns about the temperatures. I thought it would be even hotter than my old CPU, but I wasn’t expecting this much. Following @HorseBattery’s advice, I plan to experiment with PBO2 Tuner and slightly undervolt it to observe its performance, which gives me some peace of mind since the temps are within normal ranges.
