I have a query about the typical operating temperatures of the 9400f when under load. I’m seeing around 72°C during a sustained CPUZ stress test after roughly ten minutes. This is causing some concern because it seems to heat up quickly. I’m wondering if running the test for 20 minutes would be necessary. I used a stock HP cooler from my HP 550-153W, which was originally for a 4690 chip. I assumed it would handle the workload. Could it be that this 65W CPU is getting hotter than my previous i5 4690? Or am I possibly missing thermal paste or the cooler isn’t performing well enough? I’m not sure and getting mixed messages online. I don’t want to replace the cooler just yet but might need to reassess.

72C under load is typical for a stock cooler. Concern arises when temperatures hit 85C.

IMO 72C isn't suitable for any CPU during a stress test. Higher-end chips can reach mid to high 90s under such conditions. While a genuine stress test would use tools like Prime95, I'm not sure how CPU-Z performs. Have you thoroughly cleaned the old heatsink compounds with alcohol and applied fresh ones? If they're old or dried out, it won't work as well.

It's a brand new chip, and I thoroughly cleaned the cooler and fan before using it again. It's performing well at idle, but it gets warmer a bit more during games or heavy use—around 74°C after one CS Go session on my GTX 1070.

I purchased MX thermal paste from Amazon and plan to replace it with a potentially superior option. My computer is functioning properly after my initial build.

These YouTube build guides for this channel are top-notch and perfectly accurate. I've seen many from Linus over the years since I'm passionate about technology. I'm sure this is just a coincidence, but I'm confident soon we'll figure it out. It doesn't seem to be related to the cooler, could be a fan-related issue, but I'm testing it now. When I disassembled the HP and removed the memory CPU, motherboard, and soldered the 1070, I ended up selling all those parts on Facebook marketplace. Except for the 1070 – honestly, I don't know. The fans are set to normal speed, though.
